Wall-to-wall carpeting: 10 reasons why it should be in your bedroom

wall-to-wall carpeting

The idea of wall-to-wall carpeting can seem like a nightmare, but we promise to present to you with some pretty solid arguments for why you should considering adding a carpet to your bedroom.

Whereas the rest of the house is taking a more communal role with the rise of open space design, the ‘society’ kitchen, and cohabitation, the bedroom is gaining more importance than ever as a personal sanctuary. Unlike busy parts of the home such as the hallway and family room, where practicality is likely to steer your design choices, low-traffic bedrooms give you license to indulge in carpeting – few things can truly define your bedroom as a space for relaxation than the feel of soft, luxurious carpet underfoot.

But that’s not the only reason for carpeting your bedroom.

1. Quieter Space

Carpets absorb sound—while hard flooring reflects it—reducing the noise of speech and other activity. If you have a partner with a different schedule, this is a great way to make sure no one’s beauty sleep is interrupted.

2. Warmth

Malta might enjoy great summers and a generally warm climate, but the lack of indoor heating can make its winters downright unbearable. Wall-to-wall carpeting holds warmth and insulates against extreme cold and heat, helping you reduce your dependence on heaters that are bound to drive your energy bills up.

3. A sense of luxury

Have you stayed in a luxury hotel recently that didn’t have carpeting? It is the most used floor covering in hotels for many reasons. Carpets elevate your space and define your bedroom against the rest of the house – it also helps that wall-to-wall carpeting makes you feel like you’re walking in a paradise.

4. Safety

Do you have children? You might have mastered the art of not falling down from the bed, but it doesn’t mean they have. For babies who are crawling or learning how to walk, carpets are much softer on the knees and much more forgiving during crash landings.
P.S: Don’t forget about pets! How many times have you had to look away as the dog or cat tried to take a corner too fast and skidded into the wall? Do the four-legged ones a favour: Give them some traction.

5. Durability

When properly cared for, wall-to-wall carpeting will maintain its life and beauty for many years. And it’s actually easy to look after: a vacuum cleaner will do the trick every time. Re stains: treatment of stains is getting much easier with new technology. Today most stains can be easily removed if they are treated immediately.

6. Reduces allergens in the air

A slew of studies over the past several decades has shown that carpet reduces the number of allergens in the air. Unlike hard floors, a carpet will prevent allergens from becoming airborne by trapping them in the fibres of the carpet, keeping them out of the air and out of your lungs.
Malta’s streets might be polluted by cars, but we shouldn’t ignore the fact that our houses tend to contain more air pollution than our roads. Also worth remembering: we spend 6-8 hours in the bedroom asleep. That’s a lot of time.

7. Price

The entry-level price for carpeting, an underpad, and installation is significantly less than hardwood floors. Of course, there are more expensive options, but all in all, it remains an easier option than hardwood floors.

What about your house? Would you consider adding wall-to-wall carpeting to your bedroom? And why not?
